Dial Telecom has strenghtened the capacity of the DWDM network

Dial Telecom a.s., one of the leading Czech providers of telecommunication services, has recently and significantly increased the transmission capacity of its optical DWDM network in the section between Český Těšín and Franfurt am Main, Germany. This busy transmission route of Central European importance has achieved a full operational capacity of 400 Gbit per second.

The section of the Dial Telecom optical network between Český Těšín and Frankfurt am Main is over 1,200 kilometers long. In this, Dial Telecom provides the latest technology of data transmission in the DWDM standard, which is able to manage higher data transmission capacities than standard optical networks that are not using the principles of the wave-length division multiplex. The use of the DWDM technology enables multiplying the transmission capacity of the existing optical cables and fibers without investment into expanding the cabling itself. The data route is internationally significant – it provides the connection of the Czech Republic with important western European telecommunication centers. Hence, the requirements for increasing its capacity rise significantly every year.

This is also confirmed by Pavel Kvíčala, the manager of construction and maintenance of the connection networks department of Dial Telecom a.s.: “The strengthening of the transit infrastructure came as a response to the requirements of the Dial Telecom customers and it confirms the trend of an ever increasing volume of international data transportation, to which Dial Telecom is able to respond, thanks to the technological features of its telecommunication network.”

Thanks to launching two new wave-lengths (lambdas) with capacities of 2x 100 Gbit/s, the connection is ready to meet the increasing demands of both retail and wholesale customers in the horizon of at least another two years. The launch of two new sessions was preceded by successful monthly testing of operations in May.

Modern Central European network infrastructure

The newly strengthened connection is a part of the significant Central European DWDM network of Dial Telecom, which runs from Frankfurt am Main, via Pilsen, Prague, Brno and Ostrava, to Poland. The second branch runs to Bratislava, Slovakia. Its end points connect to the networks of significant European providers. Thanks to its junction boxes along the entire route, the international data highway of Dial Telecom is fully prepared to meet future requirements for expansion in the whole Central European region.
