Glossary of terms - DNS (Name) Server

A DNS (Name) Server maintains information for the translation of computer names to IP addresses (or for the reverse translation). A Name Server always controls the portion of the space of the names of all computers. This portion is called a zone. A zone comprises a domain or its part. With the help of an NS-type sentence in its configuration, a Name Server can delegate the control of a sub-domain to a lower-level Name Server.
